While having a declutter I came across a letter that I did not know I had. It was written by H. A. Chanter (presumably Henry Alfred, the younger brother of our great grandfather, Josiah French Chanter) in January 1883 applying for a position of clerk at Lewis Solomon, 153 Central Avenue, Covent Garden. He must have been successful because the 1901 census gives his occupation as a fruit salesman.
