The Battle for Covent Garden Film

Original campaigners were interviewed to give their account of the battle for Covent Garden

By digital:works and year 6 at St Clement Danes Primary School

Year 6 pupils from St Clement Danes and students from Kings College London teamed up with digital:works, the Covent Garden Community Association and Westminster City Archives to create this fascinating film telling the story of the battle to save Covent Garden from developers.

Many of the original campaigners were interviewed and filmed by the pupils, who learned many different film making skills in the process.

The film is an extraordinary account of a community's determined effort to pull together and face the powers that be, forcing developers out of the area; it's thanks to their efforts that Covent Garden is enjoyed by so many of us today.

The film was made possible thanks to an 'All Our Stories Grant' awarded from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
